Maria Lao came to America from Brazil to continue her education at the University of North Georgia in 2017. Feeling isolated from a lack of community, she, on a whim, decided to participate in a volunteer fair on campus. Fast forward 7 years, and she has become a central leader in Gwinnett County as the Love Your City program director.
